It’s a great thing to become a Licensed Master Plumber.
Passing your Licensing Exam by yourself isn’t impossible, but taking an Exam Prep Class makes it easier.
There are three parts to the exam:
Trade- based on the codebook with some questions on trenching thrown in. 100 Questions in 190 minutes
Practical (Drawings)-Questions on sizing and DFU’s of DWV systems and Roof drains, along with rolling offsets, parallel piping and developed length questions. 25 Questions in 100 minutes
Business and Law – Based on NASCLA Business, Law and Project Management. 50 Questions in 130 minutes
Here is a link to the Candidate Bulletin:
You can purchase the books in the reference, but the two you Must buy-because you can take them into the test with you- are the NSPC 2018 and NASCLA Contractors guide NJ 1st Edition. I wouldn’t buy the 2018 NSPC just yet. The 2021 version has been approved and it is possible that PSI Exams will change the basis of the test from the 2018 edition to the 2021 edition. I would look at the Candidate Bulletin above a month before class starts and see which version of the NSPC is needed for the test.
You are allowed to highlight and tab(permanent tab, no post it notes) the reference books, but you CANNOT write in the books you bring into the test.
You will also be given links to Online Quizzes to take before and after each class.
You will also have access to multiple Online Sample Tests on each subject.
If you don’t pass all parts of the test the first time, you are allowed to come back to the Exam Prep Classes for two years from the original class at no additional cost.
